Connexus is committed to providing effective community-based services to children, youth and families. Connexus is currently recruiting a full-time house parent who will work in an established three-bed resource that provides short-term (3-6 months) care for children under the age of twelve. Successful candidate will sub-contract with Connexus Family & Children Services to provide 24 hour live-in care for these children who are in the care of the Ministry of Children and Family development. The goal of the program is assist the children, who cannot remain in their own homes or adjust to a family care home, to achieve the goals of their individualized placement plan.

The successful candidate will receive a fee for service, benefits, regular respite, vacation, operating expenses and intensive clinical support.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Education, Training, and Experience
1. Excellent child care skills garnered from direct experience working with children.
2. Emergency First Aid and CPR certification.
3. Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certificate.
4. Class 5 Driving License and Acceptable Driver’s Abstract.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
1. Knowledge of MCFD Standards for foster homes and residential placements.
2. Knowledge of normal child and adolescent development and issues affecting children in care.
3. Knowledge of behaviour management strategies related to FAS/E, developmental disorders, abuse, neglect and attachment.
4. Excellent organizational, time and general management skills
5. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills as well as computer literacy.
6. Knowledge of MCFD and community resources for children & youth
7. Understanding/sensitivity to various cultural situations/background of the client population the agency serves.
8. Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
9. Willingness and ability to perform daily household functions such as cleaning and cooking.
