Our residential Programs offer the opportunity to develop a working knowledge
of residential care, enhance professional knowledge and skills, and increase
awareness and proficiency in working with high-risk children and youth.
The Awake Night Attendants ensure the well-being and safety of residents
during the night hours. Provides individual care and guidance consistent with
the needs of a client group with mental illness. Incumbents must have the
ability to work independently, and be able to demonstrate basic counselling,
crisis intervention, conflict resolution and problem solving skills, as well
as written and verbal communication skills. Along with client monitoring,
the Awake Night Attendant is responsible for creating and maintaining a comfortable
and clean living environment and performing light housekeeping duties and
administrative functions that support the day to day operations of the program.
This position is considered a ‘front-line’ job, without supervisory responsibility.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
Education, Training, and Experience
1.
Undergraduate degree related to the social service field
with relevant experience; or
2.
A 2 year CYCC Diploma or equivalent post secondary education
in a related discipline, with a minimum of two years related professional
experience working in programs for children/youth with mental health issues.
3.
First Aid/CPR certification to meet the Community Care
Facility Act
4.
Food Sanitation and Hygiene Certificate
5.
Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certificate
6.
Class 5 Driving license and an acceptable driver’s abstract
and vehicle.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
1.
Knowledge of MCFD Standards for Staffed Children’s Residential Services.
2.
Knowledge of normal child and adolescent development
and issues affecting children in care.
3.
Knowledge of behaviour management strategies
and issues related FASD, developmental disorders, abuse, neglect and attachment.
4.
Basic knowledge of drug and alcohol misuse.
5.
Excellent organizational, time and general
management skills.
6.
Demonstrated ability to manage crisis and knowledge
of non-violent crisis intervention techniques.
7.
Excellent organization, time management, interpersonal
and communication skills and computer literacy.
8.
Ability to work weekends.
9.
Understanding/sensitivity of various cultural
and socioeconomic backgrounds of the clients the agency serves.
