Respite Caregiver(s)Required

Connexus Family and Children Services is currently accepting applications for respite caregivers in the Family Connections Respite Program. As a caregiver you will be part of a multi-disciplinary team that strives to build parental capacity and provide a break for the family. Children range in age from 5-14 years and caregiver abilities are matched to fit with the child’s needs and challenges. The care is provided in your own home.

General Requirements:
• Physical space to provide care and privacy for the child, including a separate bedroom
• Knowledge of Child and Adolescent Development
• Experience working with challenging behaviours
• ** Knowledge, or be open to training, in Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, ADHD, Reactive Attachment Disorder, recreational opportunities, cultural awareness, wrap around service provision, family dynamics, the Rights of Children in Care and Crisis Prevention Intervention
• A safe vehicle and clear driving record, as you will be transporting the child to and from your home
• Patience, a sense of humor, and a genuine desire to work with children and/or youth.

** This knowledge can be developed through the support of the Family Support Counsellor

Time Committments:
The child/youth attends respite in your home every 2nd weekend. You will pick them up Friday evening and take them home Sunday evening. The Family Support Counsellor will check in with you regularly through visits and phone calls.
