Teen Adoption |
The ACT Now! Project The ACT Now! is the Adult Commitment to Teens Project. Our projects’ aim is to develop recruitment and awareness programs that will assist in finding permanent lifelong connections for teens. These permanent lifelong connections will be built through all available options including adoption, guardianship, kith and kin, reunification and the building of lifelong adult connections. Our belief is that teens want and deserve families and need permanent lifelong connections. Our commitment is to build permanent, lifelong connections for all teens in our pilot project. This unique project recognizes that neither long term foster care nor independent living is considered a desirable permanency option because the government is not a suitable long-term parent. If a teen is not adopted in a permanent relationship with a significant committed adult upon reaching the age of 19, they are no longer under the care of the Ministry of Children and Family Development and are released to no one other than themselves. Youth in care require the same family connections as youth in the general population. We must do better in fostering and supporting these connections. Without connections, without permanency, without family support, successful transition into adulthood is severely hampered. The heart of parenting is the connection, the acceptance, the thick
and thin of it. If a youth could shape the kind of parenting relationships
they could have, would they choose it? For information about this program, to make a referral or to inquire about participating in our ACT Now! Adult Commitment to Teens Project, please contact: Gaye Smith Or Sarah Watson Click the links below for more info: | |||
